PancakeSwap’s community involvement and user voices have always been an integral part of decision making and guiding the future of the protocol. It is important to ensure that the most productive suggestions and proposals from active contributors are heard and executed upon. Recently, there has been an uptick in spam proposals, which dilutes the community and the Kitchen’s ability to respond to and integrate with the strongest recommendations.
This vote is to increase the required voting power needed to create a proposal. The amount of CAKE required will remain modest and does not greatly affect the ability of contributors from making their voices heard – but will help to prevent spam proposals that do not relate to the future of PancakeSwap and make it easier for admins and the Kitchen to review serious community suggestions. If any community member cannot reach this voting power threshold, they are always welcome to share feedback and suggestions through PCS Ambassadors and Chefs in the Telegram Group.
There are currently two types of proposals supported:
1️⃣ Core - proposals posted by the PancakeSwap team. These are used to align the recommendations of the Kitchen and the community.
2️⃣ Community - proposals posted by the PancakeSwap community. These are used to propose ideas and show the community's point of view.
Voting Power (vCAKE) is the metric used to determine if an individual is able to publish a voting proposal. Currently, the required Voting Power to create a proposal is 10.
As a reminder, voting power is calculated as:
This current amount is not a high enough barrier to prevent spam. To read more about the current requirements in detail, refer to the voting docs.
The Kitchen is proposing to increase the Voting Power (vCAKE) required to 1,000. Overall, this will allow a greater number of active contributors to be heard and raise their suggestions. It will also be sufficient to prevent spam proposals from dominating the discourse.
As an example, a user wishing to contribute and publish a proposal could do the following:
If this proposal closes with the community in favor of these recommendations, the proposed changes will be enacted shortly after this vote concludes.
